Is Canola Oil Good For You?

Canola oil has been widely used because it has been token as the new alternative “healthy” oil and is less expensive to other vegetable oils such as soy, cottonseed, safflower and corn oil.  It is said the canola oil contains no saturated fat which can potentially clog up your arteries.  However, the science has stated otherwise.  The science literature stated by ingesting a single dose of 71 mg of Canola oil per day would increase your triglyceride level by whopping 47% compared to medium chain fatty acid such as coconut oil. (1)  In addition, an article released on Dec. 14th, 2017 from Psych Central stated there are strong associations between consuming canola oil and weight gain, decrease working memory and increase Alzheimer. (2)

Part of the reason why canola oil could potentially raise your triglyceride is that canola oil contains a higher level of omega-3 oils.  Supposedly omega-3 oil is good for you, but in order to increase its shelf life, remove the odor, and sustain high heat cooking, lots chemical processes have been added which also included hydrogenation process. This process can form as much as 40% trans fatty acids in canola, even more than soybean oil. (3)

Other detrimental effects come with canola oils are following:

  • Canola depletes vitamin E which will impact chronic diseases like heart, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes.
  • Canola increases the rigidity of membranes (which is a major aging factor and trigger for degenerative diseases like diabetes).
  • Canola has the potential to damage hearts creating fibrosis impairing the action of vitamin E (crucial in inflammation).
  • In human studies, there was an increase in lung cancers as well as heart damage.
  • Daily canola oil raised the triglycerides a staggering 47%.

It is unfortunate but once again we have been misled by big cooperation mass marketing strategy.  Science once again has spoken out and it is time to educate ourselves again.  Like previously stated, when in doubt, go with coconut or cold press virgin olive oil.  You will probably be more safe with these 2 than others.  I take a full teaspoonful of coconut oil every morning for energy and get my body ready for the day.  Also, the holiday season is here and team ICON would like to wish you all a happy and safe holiday!

The Wonder of Melaleuca (Tea Tree) Oil

Dear readers,

Melaleuca, commonly known as tea tree oil, is one of the nature’s best defense for bacteria, viruses and fungus.  In fact, it  is so powerful and has been shown to destroy MRSA (methicillin-resistant staph) in vitro (1).  Tea tree oil was also found to inhibit 301 different types of yeasts isolated from the mouth of cancer patients suffering from advanced cancer, including 41 strains that are known to be resistant to anti fungal drugs (2). It is also a strong anti-inflammatory substance which been documented to shown positive affects on acnes and dermatitis  (3,4).

Here are details of this powerful Melaleuca (Tea Tree)oil:

Properties: Analgesic (ease pain), antibacterial, anti fungal, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory.
Historical Uses: The leaves of the melaleuca tree have been used for centuries by the aborigines to heal cuts, wounds, and skin infections.  With twelve times the antiseptic power of phenol, it has some strong immune-building properties.
French Medicinal Uses: Athlete’s foot, bronchitis, colds, coughs, diarrhea, flu, periodontal (gum) disease, rash, skin healing, sore, throat, sunburn, tonsillitis, vaginal thrush.
Other Possible Uses: This oil may help burns, digestion, hysteria, infection disease, mites, and ticks.
Body System (s) affected: Immune and Respiratory Systems, muscles, bones and skins.

Ways to use:

Aromatic Influence: it promotes cleaning and purifying microorganism in the air.
Topical: Blend with coconut oil for affected area.  Repeated use can possible result in contact sensitization.

You might have heard me said this multiple times before, and Melaleuca is one of my favorite and travels with me all the time.  It is powerful, effective and pleasant immune enhancer and bacterial destroyer.  Speaking of travel, with holiday seasons coming up, lots of us have already planned out travel itineraries.  Melaleuca, along with On Guard oil (from last essential oil post) are two of the best defenders in crowed areas such in planes, trains or bart.  Dab some on your neck to enhance your immune system so you don’t catch bad bugs and enjoy this holiday season.  I have also seen very profound results with acne, athlete’s foot and skin infection.  This is a really good one to have and should be part of your essential oil kits.  With that being said, for disclaimer, it is always recommended to dilute with carrier oil for kids and make sure you consult with your physician if you are pregnant.

Can Chiropractic Care Naturally Enhance Your Immunity?

In this study, seventy-six asymptomatic subjects were randomized to receive an upper thoracic (upper mid-back) spinal manipulation (chiropractic adjustments) with cavitation (sounds) or without cavitation, or were included in a control group. All subjects had their blood drawn before, 20 minutes and two hours after the intervention. Production of IL-2 in mononuclear cell (key element of immune system) cultures was activated with staphylococcal protein A (SPA). Induced secretion of IL-2 increased significantly in manipulation with and without cavitation.

The paper concludes that in vitro T lymphocyte (immune) response to a SPA stimulus became enhanced after spinal manipulation. Therefore, this effect may be independent of joint cavitation/audible. This finding suggests manipulation may influence IL-2 immune-regulated biological responses.

We all know how wonderful chiropractic adjustments can be for sore neck, lower back pain and joint issues.  But do you know chiropractic adjustments can also enhance your immune system as well?   In this study, researches evaluate effects of upper mid back spinal manipulation (chiropractic adjustment) on the production of interleukin 2 (IL-2) – a key element of innate immune system signal response to foreign body infections such as bacteria, viruses and parasites.  IL-2 also play a major role with T-cell-dependent immune response system which helps you to fight off these nasty and gnarly microbial infection.  Pretty cool stuff, isn’t it?

Recap of Eposide #4 of The truth of Cancer: a Global Quest

First of all, I want to thank to those whom came out to the movie on 5/19/16 in campbell office.
It is my sincere hope that you have walked away with a few pearls from the movie and apply to your daily life.  In addition, just like the author stated (paraphrasing): with this knowledge, now it is your responsibility to pass on this knowledge so people around you can live a better life too.

Here is the brief recap from my notes, if you have something else you would like to add in regards to this episode, please feel free to share with us in the comment box.

  1. Excitotoxins are substances that can damage or kill nerve cells in the brain and body.  2 of the most powerful excitotoxinsare glutamate and sugar.
    1. MSGMSG (monosodium glutamate), a flavor enhancement, can potentially cause cancer while taking long term. 
    2. Originally, the science showed only brain cells have glutamate receptors, but turns out EVERY SINGLE CELL in the body has glutamate receptor, in which case, when you taking MSG, not only it affected your brain but the WHOLE
      BODY! yikes!
    3. Flavonoid in fruits such as resveratrol found to be very affective on blocking  glutaneuromate uptake in cells.
    4. Glutamin and Glucose both can fuel cancer but glutamin is worst of 2 because it goes thru the anaerobic pathway, in other words, cancer cells can utilize glutamin in any condition.
    5. Surprisedly, black bean and mushroom have HIGH glutamin as opposing to green veggies have low on glutamine.
    6. SOY, doesn’t matter organic or not, is naturally HIGH in glutamin and glutamate and should be avoid at all cost.
    7. Sugar, on the other hand, is very very bad as well.
    8. White blood cell, body’s nature immune system, needs Vit C in order to work.
      1. Sugar (glucose) uses the same pathway as  Vit C to get into the cells.  So when taking sugar, your vit C not going into the cells hence decrease your immune system (WOW!)

      2. Fasting glucose of 120 can reduce WBC functioning by whooping 75%!
    9. Sugar has also been documented to induce cancer but not just causing it, and cancer cells have approximately 15-16 times more insulin receptors on them!
  2. Salvestrol – a nature compound produce in fruits RIGHT before they are ripe, has been linked to anti-cancer property.  However, with current agriculture operation, we picked these fruits before they have a chance to produce these powerful substance hence we don’t get them anymore.
  3. Sweet potato – has high amount of B6 which is good for melatonin production, helps sleep.
  4. Chaga Mushroom, which been referred to as Russian curcumin, is made up of 15% ash and contained high amount of manganese.   These powerful substance has been linked to multiple health benefits, including stomach diseases, intestinal worms, liver and heart ailments, and cancer treatment.
  5. Brassica (broccoli sprout) can potentially helped preventing colon cancer.
  6. Aspartame in diet soda burns off the leptin receptor (receptor in your brain to tell you not to eat anymore cause you are full) so people will keep eating and never feel full. aspertame
  7. Splenda (sucralose) kills off good bacteria in the gut and r   educe immune system.
  8. One of the interviewee recommended 3 trace minerals to help him stay healthy
    1. Selenium
    2. Chromium
    3. Silica- for connective tissues in the body
  9. Cancer cells are heat sensitive, hence one of the Mexico cancer clinic using infrared to kill off cancer cells and results were tremendous!
